- Old Sepsis criteria included 2 SIRS criteria – Temperature > 100.4°F, Heart Rate >90 bpm, Respiratory Rate >20, and White Blood Cell count > 12,000 mm3 – and a suspected source of infection.
- New Method involves SOFA – Sequencial Organ Failure Assessment scale – which has 3 criteria plus suspected source of infection.
- Patient is newly confused.
- Respiratory Rate > 22.
- Systolic BP < 100.
- New Septic Shock is 2 SOFA criteria and unresponsive to fluid bolus therapy.
